Statement Issued by the Foreign Secretary, The Rt Hon David Miliband MP, following the Court of Appeal judgment on the Mojahedin-e-Khalq

I share the Home Secretary's disappointment in the judgment by the Court of Appeal.  I supported her throughout this appeal process and believe she was entitled to take a sceptical approach to the application to deproscribe the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MeK).  The MeK was responsible for a series of vile acts of terrorism over a long period.  They have never publicly renounced violence and only gave up their arms in the face of the overwhelming might of US forces in Iraq.  The Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission agreed that it was correct and lawful to proscribe the MeK in 2001.

I do not believe that the MeK is a credible opposition group and have no plans to change our position on contact with them or the NCRI (National Council of Resistance of Iran).
