Relaunching the Single Market: State of Play and Challenges Ahead

Monday 10 October 2011, 14.30 – 18.30Room: JAN 2Q2Tuesday 11 October 2011, 09.00 – 12.30Room: PHS - HemicycleBrusselsOn 13 April 2011, the European Commission adopted the Single Market Act designed to revitalise the SingleMarket to the benefit of citizens. The Single Market Act contains twelve projects on which to relaunch theSingle Market for 2012, so that the twentieth anniversary of the Single Market can be celebrated withrenewed dynamism. The European Commission is working closely with the Parliament and stakeholders onthese key projects.The Joint Committee Meeting focuses on the future of Single Market policy and takes stock of the state ofplay in relaunching the Single Market in a number of key areas (Citizens' Mobility, Consumer Protection,Public Procurement and Digital Single Market). It also includes a key debate on the governance aspects ofthe Single Market. The main questions that will be discussed at the meeting are the following: How to makethe Single Market fit for current and future challenges? How to make it easier for European citizens to workabroad? How to strengthen consumer confidence in the internal market? How to improve the implementationand enforcement of the Single Market rules? What will be the major steps in the modernisation of publicprocurement? What are the main challenges in developing the Digital Single Market?
