Dear Máire Geoghegan-Quinn,
I am very pleased that you launched an open process on how the European Union
should support research and innovation in Europe beyond the 7
th
Framework with
the green paper. In the green paper we are particularly pleased that you have pro-
posed a Common Strategic Framework to succeed the current FP7, CIP and EIT.
On the basis of the Danish position paper, which I sent to you in March 2011 and
on the basis of further consultations with Danish stakeholders, we have produced a
reply to your green paper. It is my pleasure to send it to you.
In our reply we emphasise issues such as simplification and a strengthening of our
efforts to increase Europe’s competitiveness through an increased focus on innova-
tion. I am very pleased to see that you also stress these issues in the green paper.
We also emphasise a strengthening of the European Research Council and Europe-
an financing of research infrastructure. We hope these priorities will find resonance
in the Commission and the rest of Europe.
Additionally, I would like to mention that Denmark is currently undergoing prepar-
atory work in terms of Open Access to scientific publications in Denmark. In this
regard, I would like to emphasise the need for an increased focus and close collab-
oration on the issue within the European Union.
I am looking forward to your formal proposal for a common strategic framework at
the end of this year and to co-operate closely with you during the Danish EU Presi-
dency in the first half of 2012.
