Dear Mr Speaker,
On 1 July 2013, Lithuania takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania will hold ten events in the framework of theparliamentary dimension of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.I have the pleasure of presenting the calendar of Presidency meetings to you and invitingMembers of national Parliaments of the European Union and Members of the EuropeanParliament to participate in the events. Further information on each event, including itsagenda, will be provided doser to the scheduled date.The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania will contribute to the implementation of the keypriorities of the European Union - higher employment and fmancial sustainability - with anaim to ensure economic growth and competition. The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuaniawill play a fundamental role by assisting in the achievement of the priorities of the LithuanianPresidency of the Council of the European Union: greater energy security; efficientimplementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and enhanced regionalcooperation; rapprochement of the Eastem Partnership countries with the EU byimplementing reforms and concluding intended agreements with the European Union;efficient protection of the extemal horders of the European Union through the development ofthe Integrated management of the EU extemal horders and strengthening of fight againstsmuggling and fraud.I am looking forward to close cooperation with you and your colleagues during the LithuanianPresidency of the Council of the European Union.
