STAVROS LAMBRINIDISEUSR for Human Rights
Stavros Lambrinidis is theEU Special Representative for Human Rightssince August2012.In 2011, he wasMinister for Foreign Affairs of Greece.Between 2004 and 2011 he wasMember of the European Parliamentwith the Greek SocialDemocratic Party (PASOK) and served as Head of the PASOK Delegation to the EP. In July2009 he was electedVice-President of the European Parliament,in charge of the Bureau'sInternational Relationsand the Parliament’sCommunications Policy.He was also responsiblefor the Bureau'sTransatlantic Relationsand forrelations with International Organizations.Between 2004 and 2009 he wasVice-Presidentof the Parliament'sCivil Liberties, Justiceand Home Affairs Committee (LIBE).He has been Parliament’sRapporteuron issues suchas thePromotion of Security and Fundamental Rights in the Internet Age;theIntegration ofImmigrants in Europe;theProtection of Critical Infrastructures against terrorist threats;andShadow Rapporteurfor theProcessing of Personal Data and the Protection of Privacy in theelectronic communications sector.Before that, Mr. Lambrinidis served asAmbassador ad personamof the Hellenic Republic(1999-2004);Secretary General of the Greek Foreign Ministry responsible for expatriateGreeks(1996-99); andchief of staffto the Greek Foreign Affairs Minister (1996).Between 2000 and 2004, he wasDirector Generalof theInternational Olympic TruceCenter,an International Olympic Committee Organization.From 1988 to 1993 he worked as anAttorneyatWilmer, Cutler & Pickeringin Washington,D.C., specializing in International Trade, Transactions and Arbitration.Mr. Lambrinidis was born in Athens, Greece on 6 February 1962. He studied Economics andPolitical Science atAmherst College,USA (B.A. degree, 1984) and Law atYale Law School(JurisDoctordegree, 1988). He is a 1980 graduate of theAthens College High School(Athens, Greece). He is married and has a young daughter.
