Biography
Banu Sözüar was born in İstanbul. After graduating from
the İstanbul State Conservatory (Ö.Veziroğlu-Piano and
R. Abet-Harmony) she was accepted to the „Hochschule
für Musik und Darstellende Kunst“ in Vienna where she
pursued her studies with Professors Bruno Seidlhofer
and Hans Petermandl, and obtained her degree as
concert pianist in the class of Alexander Jenner. She also
had Master Courses with Alfred Brendel, Paul Badura-
Skoda and Jörg Demus. Later she advanced her studies
with Prof. Leonid Brumberg.
She made her début with Liszt's E Flat Major Piano
Concerto at the age of 15 in a concert with the İstanbul Radio Symphony
Orchestra, embarking on an international carreer that embraced orchestral and
recital performances in Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa, Australia and South
America. She made comprehensive concert tours in Russia, Asia and South
America playing various recitals and performing at the same time with
orchestras such as Novosibirsk, Singapore and Cuban National Symphony.
She made recordings for a number of radio and TV companies including the
Austrain Broadcasting Company(ORF), Russian TV, Singapore Radio and TV,
RTBF of Belgium, TRT of Turkey, Radio Nacional-Buenos Aires, Australia's
ABC, and Germany's ZDF and NDR.
Afer playing at the İstanbul International Music Festival where she performed,
together with Alexander Jenner, F. Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos with the
İstanbul Symphony Orchestra under Anatole Fistoulari, she was then selected
for a concert programme „ Cherchons des Noms“ at the Grand Auditorium de la
Maison de la Radio in Brussels playing Chopin's 2nd Piano Concerto which was
live broadcast to 12 European Countries and Canada with „Le Nouvel Orchestra
Symphonique de la R.T.B.F. , directed by Yoav Talmi.
Banu Sözüar performed at various international music festivals, and made
several CD recordings which included works of Brahms, Liszt, Rachmaninov
and rarely played pieces from A. Liadov, D.Milhaud and D.Schostakovich, as
well as contemporary composers. Her recording of Schostakovich's 24 Préludes
(Arco Diva) is included in the „Dimitri Shostakovich- The First Hundred Years
and Beyond CATALOGUE“ by Derek C. Hulme, foreworded by Irina
Shostakovich.
