Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality

To the Chairperson(s) of the Committee(s) concerned
Dear Colleague,
For many years now, the European Parliament has been celebrating International Women's Day
(IWD) with a special event bringing together Members of the EP and National Parliamentarians
from across the European Union.
Hence, on the occasion of IWD 2022, the European Parliament’s Committee on Women's
Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) would like to invite Members of the National Parliaments
of the EU to attend an Interparliamentary Committee Meeting on the theme:
An ambitious future for Europe's women after COVID-19: mental load, gender equality in
teleworking and unpaid care work after the pandemic
The COVID pandemic has demonstrated the essential nature of care work overwhelmingly
carried out by women, pointing out to gender inequalities linked to women’s position in the
context of globalised care economy but also in society in general. Despite this critical role, the
care work is undervalued and mental load and the state of play of gender equality in teleworking
represent new challenges to address. Gender inequalities are thus at the heart of the care
economy and directly linked to women’s position, not only on the frontline of unpaid and low-
paid work in the globalised social and care economy but also at all stages of the design,
adoption and implementation of the recovery plans.
On the International Women’s Day, the hearing will provide a platform for the Committee and
the European Parliament together with National Parliamentarians to mark this day, and offer a
global forum for an exchange of experiences and best practices in advancing women’s
empowerment during and after crises such as the one triggered by COVID-19.
We are therefore very pleased to invite up to four Members of the corresponding committee(s)
of each National Parliament (two from each chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to
attend this event on
Thursday, 3 March 2022, from 9.00 to 12.00 online.
Practical details regarding the meeting will be forwarded in due course to your Parliament's
representatives/services responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
We sincerely hope that you will be able to accept our invitation and we are looking forward to
welcoming you remotely in the European Parliament on 3 March 2022.
