Dear Chair, dear colleague,
I would like to cordially invite you, together with a small delegation from your committee,
to an online inter-parliamentary committee meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee on
27 June 2022 at 15:00-17:00.
The topic of the meeting will be “EU
enlargement policy in the aftermath of Russia's
invasion of Ukraine”.
This will be an opportunity to evaluate the implications of the war
in Ukraine for the European Union and the current and potential EU candidate countries.
This exchange is particularly timely as it will follow the European Council meeting on 23-
24 June 2022, during which the EU membership applications of Ukraine, Moldova and
Georgia are due to be discussed. On the eve of the summit, an EU-Western Balkans leaders’
meeting is planned on 23 June 2022.
The perspective of national parliaments regarding the future of the enlargement policy,
which has broad strategic and political implications for the EU and Europe as a whole, is
particularly relevant.
Practical details regarding the meeting will be forwarded in due course to the services of
your Parliament responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
