To the Chairperson(s) of the Committee(s) concerned
Dear Colleague,
On behalf of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) I would like to
invite Members of the National Parliaments of the EU to attend an
Interparliamentary
Committee Meeting (ICM)
on the theme:
“Gender mainstreaming”
European Parliament has developed a set of documents outlining the necessary steps needed to
ensure that it becomes a model employer in terms of gender equality. Parliament’s current
actions on gender mainstreaming are being developed following the Gender Action Plan
adopted by its Bureau in 2020, in line with its Rules of Procedure. Parliament as well regularly
prepares reports on the implementation of gender mainstreaming, with the most recent one
having been adopted as European Parliament resolution of 10 March 2022 on gender
mainstreaming in the European Parliament – annual report 2020. European Parliament is
focused, among other things, on mainstreaming gender into legislation, budget and
parliamentary oversight, as well as vertical and horizontal representation within the political
structures. It also addresses such issues as learning and development, harassment prevention and
use of gender sensitive language and communication among many others.
This ICM will provide a platform for the Members of the European Parliament and of the
national parliaments to exchange views on matters related to gender equality in the context of
parliamentary life, with a special emphasis on gender mainstreaming in Parliaments. FEMM
proposes the following topics for two panels of the meeting: 1) Anti-harassment protocols, their
implementation and sanctions, and 2) Gender Action Plans.
I am therefore very pleased to invite up to four Members of the corresponding committee(s) of
each National Parliament (two from each chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to
attend this event on
Thursday, 8 December 2022, from 9.00 to 12.00 remotely.
Practical details regarding the meeting will be forwarded in due course to your Parliament's
representatives/services responsible for relations with the European Parliament.
