Dear Chair,
I have the pleasure of inviting you to the Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting (ICM) that the
European Parliament's Committee on Regional Development (REGI)
will hold on
Tuesday 7
November 2023.
The discussion on the future Cohesion Policy post 2027 is important for the EU, and I
consider that having this debate in the European Parliament in collaboration with National
Parliaments is of first importance. This meeting will also be a chance for Members of the
European Parliament and Members of National Parliament to exchange views on cohesion
policy that has become the largest budget heading of the European Union.
The meeting will follow the discussion that started last week at the European Council level
in Murcia, and will ensure the involvement of National Parliaments in the debates regarding
this key EU policy.
The title of this
Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting
will thus be : "The
Future of
Cohesion Policy: Opportunities, Challenges and Next Steps".
I would be pleased to welcome up to four Members of the relevant committee(s) from your
national Parliament (two from each Chamber in the case of bi-cameral Parliaments) to attend this
meeting. Should you be unable to attend, I would welcome any written contribution, which
would be distributed to our Members and other participants.
Please find attached the preliminary draft programme of the meeting.
A final copy will be
circulated closer to the date of the meeting.
Practical details regarding the event will be
forwarded in due course to your Parliament's services for relations with the European
Parliament.
