RESOLUTION
OF THE SEJM OF THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND
of 20 December 2024
on support for civil protests in Georgia and condemnation of the use of
violence against their participants
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland expresses its solidarity with the participants of the
civil protests that have been taking place for several weeks in Tbilisi and other Georgian cities,
and declares its support for the democratic aspirations of the Georgian people, as well as the
efforts to join the family of European states, built on the foundation of shared values and a
common historical heritage.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls on the Georgian authorities to resolve social
conflicts in a spirit of dialogue, to stop the use of force against participants of protests across
the country, and to engage in unconditional talks with opposition representatives in order to
prevent further escalation of violence.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls on the Georgian authorities to comply with
their international obligations to protect human rights and to guarantee the full independence
of the judiciary.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland condemns the actions of the Georgian authorities
which have led to the restriction of civil rights including the right of assembly, the use of physical
violence against citizens, the suppression of freedom of expression, and the repression of
political opposition, independent media, and non-governmental organisations.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls on international organisations, including the
European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations, to take decisive diplomatic
action to restore democratic standards in Georgia and ensure respect for fundamental human
rights, as well as to monitor the situation and support civil society in the country.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland notes that stability, democracy and respect for
human rights in Georgia are key to ensuring security and stability in the Caucasus and
maintaining an international order based on law.
This resolution is an expression of the concern of the Republic of Poland for the future
of Georgia and of solidarity with its citizens in their quest for freedom, democracy, justice and
membership of the European community of states and peoples in the spirit of the historical
traditions of friendship between Poland and Georgia.
